I qualified with a Bachelor of Education (Teaching) Early Childhood in 2008 and have been an in-home Educarer for 7 years, joining Bright Futures in October 2020.
My longstanding families have children join me mostly when they’re very young and stay with me until they go to school, with siblings often joining me afterwards. The youngest child I’ve had in my care was six weeks old.
Our home is very well set up for quality childcare, we have a sandpit, swing, slide, water play, bikes, trampoline and heaps of fun activities that cover the whole curriculum. I like to focus on activities that specifically fit the children’s individual current interests.
I’m a firm believer that children learn through play and so I integrate their learning into play activities. For example, if we are playing with blocks then we talk about the colours and the shapes so the children are learning all the time while having fun.
I foster self help skills so that when children go to school they already have those important skills in place. Examples of self help skills are opening their own lunch box or putting their own jersey on and taking it off.
I feel that social skills are very important to teach at a young age, these include how to make friends and how to treat others.
I’m here for the children!
